Water Life, fight drought and describe the devastating effects of climate change in a photographic exhibition

The photos taken in Ethiopia will be exhibited starting this month at Somerset House in London

MILAN - Photographs taken in the hottest place on the planet to report and combat drought in Ethiopia. The new exhibition by Aida Muluneh is called " Water Life ": described by the Ethiopian artist as " Afrofuturist ", the exhibition intends to show the devastating effects caused by climate change, the arid and dry climate of the most torrid African territories.


The exhibition documenting the drought in Ethiopia 

The acclaimed exhibition will be part of the cultural review "Ongoing strand of environmental programming" , which main objective will be to document the phenomenon of drought and its impact on African populations , told through a series of shots depicting Ethiopian women and girls . Taking inspiration from the African tradition linked to ornaments and "body painting", the Ethiopian artist has faced not only the emergency of drought and the ecological one , but also the vital role of art in the culture of his native land, in relation to as it is represented by the global media .


Who is the artist Aida Muluneh

Aida Muluneh has a specific objective: to talk about the problems linked to the lack of access to drinking water resources by African populations in rural regions. The collection of photos focuses on female figures because, as the artist said, “one cannot fail to observe how women are actually carrying baskets of water to take to their villages, tens of kilometers away ”. The project of visionary Aida is commissioned by the NGO WaterAid with the support of the H&M Foundation , and will see life from mid-September at Somerset House in London.
